This technical memo summarizes fish and habitat monitoring that occurred during 2022 and
2023 that are intended to evaluate the effect of restoration on fish use and habitat condition at the
site. The project is funded by ESRP as a learning project to better understand the role of site
connectivity influence on fish densities. North Leque restoration was designed to have four
independent tidal channel networks that required several plugs to be placed. Restoration site
observations indicated that dike breaches tended to be under excavated resulting in ponding of
water at the site. A separate analysis provided by Greg Hood depicts that connectivity to the
restoration reach seems to have decreased as fish now need to transit long networks to enter the
site (Appendix B). We share the results of monitoring efforts from 2022 and 2023 and provide
preliminary evaluation of the North Leque restoration effectiveness.
