The Skagit Recovery Plan (SRP) estuary goal is to increase carrying capacity by 1.35 million Chinook Salmon smolts from the estimated carrying capacity of 2.25 million Chinook Salmon smolts at 2005 status. The SRP estuary strategy is to maintain and increase system capacity by protecting the existing estuary habitat, restoring estuarine habitats and improving the connectivity between available habitats. The implementation of this strategy is applied and evaluated across five major sub-delta areas that include Swinomish Channel Corridor, North Fork Delta, Central Fir Island Delta, South Fork Delta and Stanwood/English Boom Delta Fringe. The major sub-delta areas encompass different portions of the Skagit delta that differ in their orientation of Chinook outmigration pathways, habitat conditions and environmental pressures.
