The Skagit Water Temperature Database provides a central location for housing water temperature data collected by SRSC and by other entities. The Skagit Water Temperature Database aims to provide a temperature data management system to support scientists and policymakers’ understanding of the thermal regimes recorded throughout the Skagit Basin, how these thermal regimes may affect ecosystem functions, and how the regimes may be altered over time as a result of climate change and management actions.
This guidance reflects outcomes of the 2024 Skagit Water Temperature Workshop, as reported by Mugunthan and Koontz (2025), which identified, “There are numerous organizations (federal, tribal, local city/county, non-governmental, and private) in the Basin that are conducting temperature monitoring across different environments (riverine, lacustrine, estuarine) and with different objectives” and the workshop participants’ desire to create “A singular data resource” to house water temperature data collected by multiple entities throughout the Skagit Basin.

Data in this database are openly available by default. Data availability in no way implies that end users may hold data collection entities responsible for subsequent data applications. Data users will be provided an agreement upon password request stating that use of the Skagit Water Temperature Database implies a) all data are used at the users’ own risk, b) understanding that secondary data analyses and applications do not imply any liability by the collecting entity, c) credit should be given to the data collecting entity in subsequent applications or publications, and d) questions about datasets should be directed to the collecting entity.
